The Morley Printmaking department is delighted to announce they will be holding an exhibition and auction in June 2019 in the Cardew Space at Morley College to raise money for two cancer charities: The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation and Marie Curie. The exhibition and charity sale will honour the memory of three printmaking tutors, Richard Michell, Dorothea Wight and Magar Balakjian who were instrumental in developing the printmaking department at Morley and who all worked here for many years. The exhibition in the Cardew Space will include work by Magar, Dorothea and Richard.
Dorothea Wight and Magar Balakjian ran the editioning workshop, Studio Prints, working with artists such as Lucian Freud, Frank Auerbach and Ken Kiff. Richard Michell worked with Julian Trevelyan and David Hockney. They were all experienced artists, working across drawing, printmaking, collage and sculpture. They each brought expert knowledge to Morley for many years, helping to set up the department and teaching and generously sharing their knowledge with many current tutors.
All the prints will be donated by printmakers at Morley College and will include;
A boxed set of prints each by a different printmaker, in a 30cm by 30cm format.
An exhibition of unframed work inspired by The Planets.
A charity auction of new prints made in the Printmaking Department and donated prints from other artists.
